For the second consecutive day, Mumbai on Thursday recorded highest daily spike in Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began in March last year.
The civic authorities in the maximum city said that 5,504 new infections were recorded. On Wednesday, the commercial capital recorded 5,185 fresh infections which was also highest daily surge.
The addition of around 400 cases from Wedesday is not surprising at the civic authorities have stepped up random testing at crowded places in the city. In the last 24 hours, 46,869 Covid-19 tests have been done, the BMC reported. 14 deaths were recorded on Thursday.
