Mysuru gangrape: 5 arrested, K'taka home minister says case cracked

At least five people have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a student in Mysuru, Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood informed on Saturday.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra who earlier drew flak for saying the victim should not have gone to the deserted area, declared on Saturday that the case has been successfully cracked.

Karnataka DGP said a sixth accused is on the run and the police are working to hunt him down. Sood further informed that ‘all five are labourers from Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district, adding one of them is likely a juvenile.

He has also said they have collected ‘technical and scientific evidence’

A 23-year-old student was allegedly gangraped when she was returning from a forested area with a male friend in Mysuru on Tuesday night.

Following the horrific incident, the University of Mysore has imposed curb on the movement of students around Kukkarahalli lake.
