Navratri 2021: Navratri is a nine-day-long festivity dedicated to Goddess Durga.
Every year has four Navratri - Sharad Navratri, Chaitra Navratri, Magha Gupta Navratri, Ashadha Gupta Navratri. Amongst these, the Sharad Navratri is celebrated with a lot of excitement and festive fervour.
As per the Hindu calendar, the Sharad Navratri falls in the Ashwin month. This year it will begin on 7th October and end on 15th October. During these nine days, devotees observe a fast, offer prayers, chant scriptures and set up puja pandals.
Apart from this people also indulge in meals made of kuttu atta, sabudana and sweet potatoes.
The entire festivity is based on the narrative of the goddess Durga's battle with the demon Mahishasura, in which the latter is defeated, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
