Navratri 2021: Maha Saptami celebrations of Navpatrika Puja

Navratri 2021: Navratri is a 9-day long festival dedicated to goddess Durga and her nine avatars. During these festive days, idols of Durga are placed in pandals and worshipped with some special rituals.

Amongst these days, the seventh day is believed to be particularly auspicious. Know as Maha Saptami, the seventh day marks the beginning of Durga Puja. This year Maha Saptami shall be celebrated on 12th October. 

On this day devotees perform a special ritual, known as the Navpatrika Puja. For the ritual, people gather leaves from 9 distinct plants that are worshipped. The Navpatrika is then purified with a ceremonial bath in the morning which is known as Mahasnan.
