As the country grapples with the brutal gangrape of Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, the latest NCRB data for 2019 presents a grim picture of how common crimes against women are in the country.
The data shows, every 16 minutes a woman gets raped in India, every four hours a woman gets trafficked and and every four minutes a woman is subjected to cruelty at the hands of her husband or in-laws.
An acid attack happens on a woman every 2.3 days, says the data. A dowry death happens every 1 hour in India. There is a gangrape and murder every day in India while there's an attempt to rape a woman every 2 hours.
