UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has said that there is "not enough evidence" to prove that taking vitamin D prevents or treats COVID-19.

The NICE along with Public Health England and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition led the rapid review and announced that more research and randomised controlled trials are needed.

The research was conducted in the wake of many studies suggesting vitamin D supplements might help fight coronavirus infection.

The expert panel added that they still 'encourage people to follow government advice on taking the supplement throughout the autumn and winter period.'
