Indian men's hockey campaign at the Tokyo Olympics began with a bang as the Men in Blue came back from a goal down to beat New Zealand 3-2 in their first Pool A match.
New Zealand took the lead in just the 6th minute but Rupinder Pal Singh equalised soon after and became the first man to score for India at the Tokyo Olympics. His goal was followed by a brace by Harmanpreet Singh as he converted consecutive penalty corners.
India had a scare when New Zealand scored in the 3rd quarter. They came close to equalising but PR Sreejesh denied them several chances with his rock solid keeping. India next take on Australia on Sunday.
