Omicron infection has exploded in Tamil Nadu with 33 cases in a day. The state government on Thursday reported 33 new cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Out of the new cases, 26 were reported in Chennai. This takes the total state tally to 34.
The state government has said that the contacts of the infected people were being traced and the gene sequencing results of some more people were awaited.
Government officials said that as many as 104 people who arrived in Tamil Nadu from various countries have tested Covid-19 positive till date.

Over 250 Omicron infections have been reported in the country so far. Delhi and Maharashtra have the most cases and now Tamil Nadu has jumped to third spot with the latest single-day Omicron explosion.
