After meeting West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Thursday said that the present Opposition party in the country is ''weak''.

Speaking to ANI, Tikait said had the Opposition been strong there would be no need for farmers to protest on the streets.

Asked whether he took permission from the Centre to meet Banerjee, Tikait replied he has met the Chief Minister of a state and not a party leader.

Tikait, meanwhile, thanked Mamata for her support and said West Bengal should function as a model state for others.
