Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday led the opposition attack on govt over its flip flop on interest rates on Small Savings Schemes. The Congress general secretary asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman if the Centre's roll back of rate cut was a case of "oversight" as claimed or one of election-driven "hindsight".
The Trinamool Congress, battling the BJP in West Bengal, also mocked the Union government on it's reversal, TMC leader Derek O'Brien tweeted that the rollback was an egg on the govt's face.
Former finance minister P Chidambaram too slammed the govt on the move saying "there is nothing inadvertent about the govt notification and the BJP govt had decided to launch an assault on the middle class". The sharp rate cut would have set the PPF rate to the lowest level in 46 years.
