 Jal Jeevan Mission Director, Bharat Lal points to the need for 'water use efficiency' in both agriculture and urban spaces. With agriculture using the lion's share of freshwater in the country, are there ways that the community can reduce water wastage? Practicing micro-irrigation is one such step which is incentivised by the government and which reduces water wastage by about 70%. Bharat Lal gives the example of Gujarat where implementation of 'micro irrigation' led to increase in farmer's productivity, income and water table, and a decline in water usage.
