The city authorities in Paris have slapped a fine of €90,000 (Rs. 80,77,000) for hiring 'too many women' in senior positions, breaching a law that aims to ensure 'gender-balance.'
Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo reprimanded the decree, calling it 'absurd' and 'unfair' in a council meeting.
“The management of the city hall has, all of a sudden, become far too feminist,” she said. Paris city hall reportedly violated a 2013 rule that stipulates one sex should not account for more than 60% of management positions.
