Mahindra Electric, the electric vehicle arm of the home-grown automaker, has launched its popular Treo electric three-wheeler auto-rickshaw in Maharashtra. The electric three-wheeler is eligible for FAME-II, state and early-bird subsidies, and after all those added, customers will be able get the Treo for an ex-showroom, Mumbai price of 2 lakh nine thousand rupees. Mahindra claims that compared to a regular CNG powered auto-rickshaw, the Treo can offer savings of up to 2 lakh rupees, over a period of 5 years, thanks to its low running cost of 50 paise per kilometre. The Treo comes with an IP65-rated Lithium-Ion battery that powers the electric motor to generate 8 kW or 10.7 bhp and a peak torque of 42 Nm. The vehicle can offer a range of up to 130 km on a single charge.
