According to The New York Times, Israeli generals support a truce, even if it means leaving Hamas in power, as they believe it's the best way to secure the release of hostages.

However, Netanyahu has rejected the idea, calling it "not an option" and vowing to continue fighting until "total victory" against Hamas is secured. He also criticized the anonymous sources who spoke to The New York Times.
