VCK, CPI, CPM, MMK and several other political parties held a ‘Communal Harmony Human Chain’ movement to counter the plans of RSS holding a ‘route march’ in Tamil Nadu. The RSS initially had plans to hold a parade on Gandhi Jayanthi. Opposing the move, VCK had announced a ‘Communal harmony rally’ on the same day. The Tamil Nadu police had denied permission for both the rallies citing law and order reasons. However, the RSS approached the court and got permission to conduct the parade on November 6. In an attempt to counter the RSS, political parties and other social organisations held a rally across the state to preserve and protect communal harmony in Tamil Nadu and vowed to fight the RSS.
