A group of transgender people has opened a restaurant in Coimbatore called Covai Trans Kitchen after their incomes were hit by the pandemic. Before Covid, the group would earn a livelihood by cooking biryani at weddings. Covai Trans Kitchen run by a team of 10 people now offers their signature biryani, pastries, Chinese and north Indian cuisines .
They received training earlier this year by Bishop Appasamy College’s hotel management department. Depending on the response they plan to open more outlets in the city.
