After the Centre's Diwali bonanza of a cut on petrol and diesel prices, several BJP-ruled states have rushed in to further sweeten the Centre's gift to people.
At least nine BJP-ruled states - Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Karnataka, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand - have announced additional cuts in prices of petrol and diesel.
The move came hours after the Centre announced a cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹ 5 and ₹ 10 respectively on the eve of Diwali.

In poll-bound UP, Yogi Adityanath government has reduced the VAT by Rs 7 and Rs 2 respectively on petrol and diesel. Couple with the Centre's cut, the fuel will become Rs12 a litre cheaper in the state.
Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Karnataka, Gujarat and Goa have also reduced the prices of both the fuel by ₹ 7 per litre in addition to the Centre's relief.
Uttarakhand has reduced the VAT on petrol by ₹ 2 per litre. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said that the state will soon issue a notification to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel.
