The iconic shacks that dot Goa's beaches may not be present this tourist season, a Hindustan Times report stated.
Quoting the General Secretary of Shack Owners Welfare Society, the report added that 79-80% shack owners will opt out of setting up these shacks due to low tourist number amid the pandemic. Many shack owners depend on foreign tourists to sustain themselves, but travel restrictions may limit their number as well.
Some shacks, along the most crowded and popular beaches will however reopen.
As restrictions begin to ease, the tourist hotspot did see a steady rise in domestic tourists, with hotel occupancy rising to 15% from a meagre 5%, the president of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa said.
