A day after the three farm bills were signed into law by President Ram Nath Kovind, farmers groups and political parties plan to intensify their protests. Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will stage a sit-in protest against the contentious laws today at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh, on his birth anniversary. He will be joined by all Congress MPs and MLAs. Shiromani Akali Dal, which quit the NDA over the issue, said President Kovind’s assent to the three bills marked a “dark day for democracy and farmers.”
