A Tintin painting by the Belgian artist Herge sold Thursday in Paris for 3.2 million euros (or 3.9 million dollars), breaking the record for the most expensive comic book art in history... previously set by the artist himself.

The 1936 painting in Chinese ink, gouache and watercolour - a cover for "The Blue Lotus," the fifth volume of "The Adventures of Tintin series," - went under the hammer at the Artcurial auction house near the Champs-Élysées.

The cover depicts a huge red dragon on a black background and a petrified Tintin.
