'Black Widow' star Scarlett Johansson, singer-songwriter Britney Spears, and actor Kate Winslet made it to the Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2021.
In the write up on Scarlett Johansson, actor Jamie Lee Curtis praised her courage, for taking on media mammoth Disney, in a breach-of-contract lawsuit, alleging that the studio's decision to release the film simultaneously in theatres and on streaming cost her substantial losses in pay. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlett is better known as Natasha Romanoff, a Russian assassin with a conscience who turns into an Avenger to save the world.
Singer and musician Britney Spears, who has been in the headlines over the controversial court-enforced conservatorship, also made it Time's list. Britney's father, Jamie Spears, has recently agreed to take a step back from the role of the conservator, after an ongoing furore amid the popstar's hospitalisation and concerns about her mental health.
In an editorial on Britney, Paris Hilton wrote, "Despite the darkness that has surrounded her life, Britney embodies joy and shares the light of her beautiful heart, forever the superstar. So we stand by her and root for her as she turns pain into purpose, her unwavering spirit stronger than ever."
Actor Kate Winslet's critically-acclaimed portrayal of a suburban Philly detective in 'Mare of Easttown' landed her on Time's '100 Most Influential People' list as well.
The whodunit series followed Kate's character as she sought to solve a murder investigation and two missing persons cases, while dealing with struggles in her personal life. The show also earned her an Emmy nomination this year for 'Outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie'.
Other celebs on the list include 'Ted Lasso' headliner Jason Sudeikis, rapper Lil Nas X, actor Jada Pinkett Smith, Minari's Steven Yeun, among others.
