But with quick runs needed in the final overs, India turned to Suryakumar Yadav who provided the much-needed impetus with a sensational knock.
While Kohli got to his 31st T20I fifty off 40 deliveries, it was Surya who stole the show with an otherworldly innings. His 26-ball 68 ensured India got past the 190-run mark.
In reply, Hong Kong threatened with a good powerplay, scoring 50 runs from the first 6 overs. But wickets at regular intervals kept pegging them back and eventually, they finished 40 runs adrift of India's total.
