Commonwealth Games 2022: Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu will be hoping to clinch her second Commonwealth Games Gold at Birmingham 2022.
In order to maximise India's medal chances at CWG 2022, the Tokyo Games silver medallist was hoping to compete in the 55-kg category this time around but her entry was rejected after a change in rules by the International Weightlifting Federation.
She had qualified for the Birmingham Games in the 55-kg weight division after winning Gold at the Singapore Weightlifting competition. However, she will now compete in the 49-kg category which saw her take silver at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
Before moving to the 49-kg category, Mirabai used to compete in the 48-kg division. She won a world championship Gold, a CWG Silver as well as Gold in the 48-kg category.
