CWG: 20-year-old Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli wins Gold, breaks Games record in 73-kg category

Achinta Sheuli, remember the name!

The weightlifter from West Bengal made history on Sunday, winning the Gold medal in the 73 kg category on his Commonwealth Games debut.

The 2021 Junior World Championships silver medalist made a Commonwealth Games record on his way to gold!

He finished the event with lifts of 143 kg in Snatch & 170 kg in Clean & jerk, totalling 313 kilos - a Commonwealth Games record.

It was a dream come true for the 20-year-old with humble origins, a man who once used to work as a tailor to aid his family income.

His victory in Birmingham also gave India their third gold at this year’s event, with all of them coming in Weightlifting so far.
