Indian athletes have already proved their mettle at Commonwealth Games 2022 with many athletes living up to their billing and some surprise podium finishes. But it's not over yet as there are more medal matches lined up on the final day in Birmingham.
HOCKEY
The Indian men’s hockey team will take on the mighty Australians in the final and would hope to end their supremacy at CWG. They will take the field in hope of clinching their first gold of the Games, something they missed out on after reaching the final in the 2010 and the 2014 editions of the CWG.
In fact, they lost to the Aussies on both those occasions. Notably, Australia has finished at the top of the podium in all 6 previous editions of the Commonwealth Games.
BADMINTON
All eyes will be on India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu in the badminton women's singles final, as she aims to finish the job after she lost in the final to Saina Nehwal in the 2018 edition.
The two-time Olympic medalist will take on Michelle Li of Canada on the final day.
Lakshya Sen, who sailed to the men's singles final, will also look to continue with the momentum and finish with a gold medal on Monday. He will face Malaysia’s Tze Yong in the ultimate showdown.
TABLE TENNIS
Achanta Sharath Kamal maybe 40 but he continues to be the poster boy of Indian table tennis. He may have 12 medals at the Commonwealth Games, including 5 gold but only one of them came in the men's singles event in his debut Games way back in 2006.
Sharath Kamal will look to extend his supremacy at the CWG when he takes on Liam Pitchford in the final.
