India continued to add medals to its tally at Commonwealth Games 2022 day 7 as Murali Sreeshankar clinched a historic silver in the men's long jump to give India a second medal in athletics. He is in fact, the first-ever Indian male athlete to clinch a Silver medal in Long Jump at the Games. Here is how other overnight results went by for India.
BOXING
Boxer Rohit Tokas assured India of a medal on Thursday with a 5-0 win by unanimous decision against Xavier Mata'afa-Ikinofo in the men's 67kg quarterfinal.
SQUASH
Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal Karthik beat Meagan Best and Amanda Haywood 11-4, 11-4 in straight games to book a Women's double quarterfinals berth where they will face Australia's Rachael Grinham and Alexander Zac.
BADMINTON
Indian shuttles began their singles campaign with a bang as PV Sindhu beat Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of Maldives in straight games 21-4, 21-11. Vernon Smeed of St Helena was no match for India's Lakshya Sen as he beat him 21-4, 21-5. Kidambi Srikanth outclassed Daniel Wanagaliya of Uganda 21-9, 21-9. Aakarshi Kashyap defeated Mahoor Shahzad 22-20, 8-1 as her Pakistani opponent had to retire due to an injury. All 4 shuttles advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.
TABLE TENNIS
Defending champion Manika Batra steamrolled Ching Nam Fu of Canada 4-0 to move to the round of 16, where she will take on Australia's Minhyung Jee.
Indian men's pair of Sharath Kamal-G Sathiyan and Sanil Shetty-Harmeet Desai advanced to the round of 16 by winning their respective matches.
Manika Batra and G Sathiyan also had a comfortable outing as the mixed-doubles pair Seychelles' Laura Sinon and Mick Crea 3-0 to enter the round of 16.
Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula also made it to the round of 16 after thrashing Northern Ireland's Owen Cathcart and Sophie 3-0.
