It was an eventful day 9 for India at Commonwealth Games 2022 as medals galore with all 6 wrestlers ending up on the podium in their respective weight categories. This makes it a total of 12 podium finishes for the wrestlers in all 12 categories.
Here is how the overnight results went by for India.
BOXING
Boxer Sagar Ahlawat beat his Nigerian opponent 5-0 via a unanimous decision to enter the final of the men's over 92kg category. With that, he has assured at least a silver for himself.
However, Mohammed Hussamuddin and Rohit Tokas had to settle for a bronze each in the men's 57 kg featherweight and 67 kg categories respectively. While Hussamuddin lost his semifinal 1-4, Rohit went down 2-3 in quarters.
TABLE TENNIS
India's Mixed Doubles pair of Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula won a nail-biter against Nicholas Lum and Minhyung Jee 3-2 of Australia to book a spot in the final.
However, an already bad CWG 2022 turned worse for Manika Batra as the ace Indian paddler and her partner Diya Parag lost their Women's Doubles quarter-final match. The pair of Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison also bowed out after losing in the quarter-final.
BADMINTON
India's Lakshya Sen hardly broke a sweat as he beat Marutius' Julien Georges Paul 21-12, 21-11 to book a place in the Men's Singles semifinals.
India's Kidambi Srikanth fought hard as he beat England's Toby Penty 21-19, 21-17 to reach the Men's Singles semifinals.
It was a tough outing for PV Sindhu as she had to grind it hard to advance to the semi-final. The 2-time Olympic medallist beat Malaysia's Goh Wei Jin 19-21, 21-14, 21-18 to stay alive. However, Aakarshi Kashyap's run came to an end in the quarterfinals.
SQUASH
The Indian mixed doubles pair of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal suffered a 0-2 loss to New Zealand's Joelle King and Paul Coll in the semifinals. They will now play for the bronze medal on Sunday.
