CWG: Murali Sreeshankar scripts history, becomes India’s first male long jumper to win a medal

India’s Murali Sreeshankar made history on Thursday night, becoming the country's first male long jumper to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Sreeshankar finished with a top jump of 8.08 metres that bagged him the silver medal in the men’s long jump.

There was a time when Sreeshankar was stranded on the sixth position but in his penultimate jump, he managed to jump 8.08 metres, which took him level with Laquan Nairn of the Bahamas.

However, the Indian had to settle for silver with his second-best jump of 7.84 metres well behind Nairn’s 7.98 metres.

Sreeshankar’s compatriot Muhd Anees Yahiya, meanwhile, finished 5th with a best jump of 7.97 metres.
