CWG: Wrestler Anshu Malik settles for Silver in Women’s 57 kg category

India’s Anshu Malik, the World Championships Silver medalist from Haryana’s Jind district is now the Commonwealth Games Silver medalist as well.

Anshu won Silver on her Commonwealth Games debut in the Women’s 57 kg category in wrestling.

Anshu lost to Nigeria’s Odunayo, who made it a hat-trick of Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. This was also the third consecutive time the Nigerian defeated an Indian wrestler in the final to clinch Gold at the quadrennial event.

Anshu Malik though was in top form coming into the final. She only needed around a minute each to beat her opponents in the quarter-final and semi-final. And yet, the Nigerian managed to outsmart the Indian when it mattered the most
