As long jumper Murali Sreeshankar made history by clinching a silver medal in the men’s long jump at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the 23-year-old.

Calling the medal 'special' PM Modi tweeted to congratulate Sreeshankar. 'It is after decades that India has won a medal in Men’s long jump at the CWG. His performance augurs well for the future of Indian athletics,' added Modi.

Sreeshankar himself shrugged off any disappointment of missing out on men's long jump gold at the Games as he reflected on winning India's first medal in the event at CWG.
