The Nepal cricket team travelled to Pakistan on August 22 ahead of Asia Cup 2023 but its star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane stayed back home.

The 23-year-old is facing rape charges and is out on bail at the moment. Due to the legal situation, he is obligated to remain in Nepal to stand trial.

As things stand, Nepal might be without the services of its star cricketer in the Asia Cup.

Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl which allegedly took place in a Kathmandu hotel room in August last year. The leg-spinner, who also became the first and only cricketer from Nepal to play in the IPL, has maintained his innocence and refuted all accusations against him.
