Australia's star all-rounder Cameron Green has revealed to the public that he was detected with Chronic Kidney Disease at birth.

The ailment is lifelong and irreversible.

Speaking to Australia's Channel 7, the 24-year-old remarked that his kidneys don't filter out blood like everyone else's.

'With chronic kidney disease there’s five stages, with stage one being the least severe, and stage five being transplant or dialysis.  Fortunately, I’m stage two, but if you don’t look after them enough, it easily goes back down,' Green stated.

When he was born, doctors projected that he would live up to 12 years of age. Presently, he says that his kidneys are only 60% functional.

After silently battling the illness for so many years, he has gone public with his issue with the hopes of helping other patients and their families.

He stated in the video that some of his national team members and officials are aware of his condition.

While he says that his cricketing career has largely remained unaffected due to his illness, there is one instance where he believes it might've creeped in.

'There was definitely one time up in Cairns, playing Australia versus New Zealand, I think it was pretty well documented that I had a pretty long day of bowling and a pretty long bat as well, and then had a cramping episode,' he recalled.

It was an ODI game in September 2022, Green said, 'It took me a long time to realise that it was probably my kidney function that was affecting my cramping.'

At 24, Green is shaping up to be one of the best all-rounders to play for Kangaroos.

Currently, he is part of the Test squad playing Pakistan in a 3-match series.

In the longest format, the youngster has played 24 games wherein he has amassed 1075 runs and taken 30 wickets.

Green is also among the costliest players to be bought in cricket's biggest T20 league, the IPL, a testament of his all-rounder prowess.
