KL Rahul, who missed the previous Test series vs New Zealand due to an injury, made a sensational comeback to Test cricket as he stood tall on Boxing Day. The Indian opening batter tamed the Proteas with his 7th Test hundred and first on South African soil.
During the process, Rahul became only the second Indian opener to score a century in South Africa. He remained unbeaten on 122, which is now the highest score by an Indian opener in the Rainbow Nation. Interestingly, 6 of his 7 Test tons have come outside India.
Rahul has now left Virender Sehwag behind in terms of scoring the most centuries for India outside Asia. Rahul is only the third batsman in the world to score a century in Australia, England and South Africa. He is also the first Indian batter to do so. Before him, only Saeed Anwar and Chris Gayle achieved this feat.
