India's veteran Test cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara on Thursday joined the English County team Sussex for the 2022 season. Pujara who went unsold in the IPL mega auctions and has been dropped from the Test team due to poor performances will also play for the team in the Royal one-day cup that is scheduled to begin from August 2nd, later this year.

The 34-year-old batter has replaced Australia's Travis Head in the squad after the latter was released because of his international commitments and for the birth of his first child. Confirming the development in a social media post, Sussex wrote, 'Pujara will arrive in time for the first championship match of the season and remain until at least the end of the RL50 competition.'

Pujara who has earlier represented Yorkshire and Gloucestershire in County cricket was signed to play 6 matches but could not participate due to the covid-19 induced lockdown.
