Virat Kohli's extended bad patch has become a concern for the Indian Team and voicing his opinion, former cricketer Kapil Dev questioned the ex-skipper's place in the team.
Once a run-machine, the 33-year-old has not been among the scores in the shortest format of the game for almost 3 years. In 2019, Kohli piled up 466 runs in 10 T20Is including his career-best 94. Since then, his performance has plummeted.
Comparing him to R Ashwin, the World Cup-winning captain questioned, if World no. 2 bowler R Ashwin can be dropped from Tests, then why can't the World no. 1 batter be dropped.

R Ashwin who boasts of 442 wickets in 86 matches was dropped in 2021 from the Test team against England despite being ranked as the World No.2 in Test bowler ranking and World no. 4 in Test all-rounder rankings at that time.
Kapil Dev further said that though Virat Kohli made a name on the back of his performances, since he is not performing currently he cannot be taking a 'performing youngster's place'
He went on to say that if Kohli is dropped for the West Indies T20I series which is scheduled for next month, then he will be 'considered dropped and not rested'
'You can call it rest, someone else will call it dropped. Obviously, if selectors do not pick him, then it could be because a big player isn't performing, said Kapil Dev.
