In a historic step to quell gender discrimination, BCCI has decided to provide the same pay to women cricketers as their male counterparts.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah in a statement released on Thursday announced, 'As a first step towards tackling discrimination, BCCI is implementing pay equity policy for our contracted Women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket'
While it will be for the first time that the men's and women's professional cricketers will be combined under one agreement, BCCI announced that the women cricketers would be paid 15 lakhs for a Test, 6 lakhs for ODI, and 3 lakhs for a T20I. Jay Shah, in his series of Tweets further added, 'pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support'
