As Team India took the field for the first time after their world cup final loss against Australia, the Men in Blue secured a 2-wicket victory against the Kangaroos in the 1st T20I on November 23.
Put to bat first, the Aussies lost opener Matthew Short (13) in the powerplay but opener Steve Smith and Josh Inglis showcased some fine ball hitting on the night with duo stitching up a brilliant 130-run partnership.
Josh Inglis' (110) blazing century helped his side post a mammoth 209-run target on the board for a young Indian batting order to chase.
In reply, India started off on the wrong foot with Ruturaj Gaikwad getting run-out without facing a single ball.
However, it was the match winning knock of skipper Suryakumar Yadav (80) along with a supportive knock of Ishan Kishan (58) which put India right on track of a victory.
Rinku Singh's 22-run cameo proved to be vital in the end as India took a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series.
