Minutes before the opening game between India and Bangladesh's 3-match ODI series, Rishabh Pant was abruptly released from the Indian squad.
While the southpaw will not play the 50-over series, he will return for the 2-match Test series in Bangladesh, starting December 14.
In a Tweet, BCCI informed, 'In consultation with the BCCI Medical Team, Rishabh Pant has been released from the ODI squad. He will join the team ahead of the Test series. No replacement has been sought'
No specific reason was stated for the 25-year-old Pant's release, he, however, is the only player who did not get a break after the T20 World Cup in Australia last month.
In the 25-year-old's absence, KL Rahul will take on the job of wicketkeeping. Pant's performance has been under scrutiny for a while now, in New Zealand as well, the Pant's willow did not impress. He scored 15 runs in the first ODI that New Zealand won and 10 in the 3rd that was called off due to rain.
