No Indian team had ever won a Test match in Centurion but Virat Kohli's men made history on Thursday as they beat South Africa by 113 runs in the 1st Test to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series.
Defending 304, India needed 6 wickets on the final day for victory and the visitors allowed the Proteas to score just 97 runs and bowled them out for 191. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets each while Ashwin and Siraj grabbed 2 each.
The Indian team which started the year with a historic win at the Gabba, ended 2021 on a high and will go into the 2nd Test with an upper hand.
