Team India is now the number 1 ranked ICC team across formats.
The Men in Blue beat Australia by 5 wickets in the 1st ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. With that, India also leapfrogged Pakistan to the top spot in ICC ODI Rankings. They were already number 1 in Tests and T20Is.
Put into bat, Australia was bowled out for 267 as Mohammed Shami rattled the visitors with a 5-wicket haul.
Chasing a below-par total on a batting-friendly track in Mohali, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad put together a 142-run opening stand. However, both got out soon after. India also lost Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan cheaply.
But KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav dropped anchor and carried India over the finish line with a half-century each.
Interestingly, India won an ODI against Australia in Mohali for the first time in 27 years. The Aussies won the last 4 games at this ground against the Men in Blue during this period.
