Axar Patel has been ruled out of India vs Australia 3rd ODI, scheduled to be played in Rajkot on September 27.

The all-rounder was named in India's squad for the 3rd ODI but his availability was subject to fitness. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Axar failed to regain full fitness and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

While it may seem that Axar's exclusion might open the door for Ravichandran Ashwin to get into India's ODI World Cup squad, the report further states that the left-arm all-rounder is on his path to recovery and is likely to be fit before the warm-up games.

Apart from that, the Indian Express also reported that the Indian team management has decided to rest Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur for the 3rd ODI. Both players are unlikely to travel to Rajkot with Team India.
