After a lengthy absence from T20 cricket, England's former Test captain Joe Root has put forward his name for IPL 2023 mini-auction on December 23.
This will be Root's second attempt to break into World's premier T20 competition after he went unsold in 2018 during the IPL auction.
31-year-old Root has not played a T20 International match since May 2019. But the IPL franchises might go for the right-hand batter given his spin bowling capabilities can be used in Indian conditions.

Indian Premier League will be reverting to a home-and-away format in 2023 and spin bowlers might come in handy on low slow Indian wickets such as Chepauk.
In 32 T20Is, Root has scored 893 runs at a strike rate of 126.30, including five fifties.
