Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

The IPL governing body confirmed the penalty in an official statement on Monday, citing a breach of the league’s Code of Conduct.

"Riyan Parag, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 11 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati on 30th March, 2025," the statement read.

"As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Parag was fined INR 12 lakhs," it further stated.

Parag became the second captain to receive a penalty this season after Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, who was also fined for a slow over-rate against Gujarat Titans.

Match Recap

CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rajasthan Royals suffered an early setback with Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal, but a strong 82-run partnership between Sanju Samson (20 off 16 balls) and Nitish Rana (81 off 33 balls, with six fours and six sixes) revived the innings. Later, skipper Riyan Parag (37 off 28 balls) provided stability, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Rajasthan eventually posted a competitive 182/9 in 20 overs.

In response, Chennai Super Kings lost opener Rachin Ravindra for a duck. A 46-run stand between Rahul Tripathi (23 off 19 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (63 off 44 balls) kept them in the game. However, quick dismissals of Shivam Dube (18 off 10 balls) and Vijay Shankar (9 off 6 balls) saw CSK falter at 92/4.

Gaikwad's resilient knock kept CSK hopeful, but his dismissal at 129/5 in the 16th over turned the tide. MS Dhoni (16 off 10 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (32* off 22 balls) tried to stage a late comeback, but Rajasthan’s bowlers held their nerve to seal the victory.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals moved up to ninth place in the points table after two consecutive losses, while Chennai Super Kings sit at seventh with one win and two defeats.
