February 7, 2024, will go down in history as one of the most historic days in Indian cricket history as Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to climb to the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings.
The fast bowler was rewarded for his match-winning spells in the two innings of the Vizag Test vs England where Bumrah picked 6 and 3 wickets respectively.
His super effort in the 2nd Test helped the pacer climb 3 places on the latest Test rankings for bowlers. Interestingly, he dethroned teammate Ravichandran Ashwin from the number 1 spot, who held the premier ranking since March last year.
What made the feat even more special was the fact that it was the first time Bumrah became the best Test bowler. Previously, the 30-year-old was never ranked above third despite a total of 10 five-wicket hauls in 34 Test matches.
Bumrah is just the 4th Indian bowler overall to top the bowling charts, with Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi, the only players from the Asian country to have done so previously.
As for the batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal was rewarded for his maiden Test double hundred in the 2nd Test and he climbed 37 places to 29th on the latest rankings for Test batters.
