Root recently became only the second Englishman after former captain Alastair Cook to cross the 10,000-run mark in the longest format.

The 31-year-old has been on a sensational run in Tests over the last couple of seasons. The Yorkshireman has already scored 4 centuries this year alone.

Australia's Steve Smith stays third on the rankings, while Pakistani skipper Babar Azam & New Zealand captain Kane Williamson complete the top five.
