USA's new T20 league, Major League Cricket, has garnered attention and enthusiasm. The league features six teams, namely MI New York, Texas Super Kings, Los Angeles Knight Riders, Seattle Orcas, San Francisco Unicorns, and Washington Freedom, and unfolds over a 19-game season spanning two and a half weeks.

The opening match between the Super Kings and the Knight Riders set the tone for an exciting cricketing spectacle. Seasoned T20 franchise players and international stars showcased their skills on the field, delivering high-quality cricket infused with passion.

As the event unfolded in Dallas, there was a distinct American touch in the build-up. The Super Kings players adorned stetson hats for publicity photos, and the national anthem, a customary tradition in American sports events, was played before the match. However, as the sun set and the floodlights illuminated the stadium, the ambiance transformed. The night air resonated with the sound of whistles and bhangra drums, evoking a sense of India in Texas. It felt reminiscent of an Indian Premier League (IPL) game, which is not surprising as the match was contested between two teams owned by IPL franchises.

MLC has garnered significant support, including backing from Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella. The organizers have openly expressed their intention to tap into the Indian diaspora in the United States, which amounts to approximately 4.6 million people. This strategic move aims to engage passionate cricket fans within the Indian community.

While it is still early to determine the long-term success of Major League Cricket in the US market, the initial signs point towards a positive outlook. The league's fusion of American and Indian influences, combined with the presence of accomplished players, has captured the interest and support of both cricket enthusiasts and the wider audience. As Major League Cricket continues to unfold, cricket's popularity among the Indian diaspora in the USA serves as a driving force that promises exciting prospects for the sport in a new and expanding market.
