New Zealand's veteran batter Martin Guptill joined his fellow Kiwi mates Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme to skip the national contract to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere.
With the increase of domestic T20 leagues, New Zealand players have been preferring to skip the national contract to participate in white-ball competitions around the globe.

However, the 36-year-old batter stated that he has not retired from international cricket and still wants to represent New Zealand in the future.
Recently, Guptill lost his place in ODIs and T20Is teams. Though he was included in New Zealand's World Cup squad Finn Allen was preferred over him. He was left out of the team for the 3-match T20I and 3-match ODI series vs India as well. .
In 367 international matches, Guptill has scored 13,463 runs, including 23 centuries for New Zealand.
