Having already lost the 5-match T20I series, Pakistan was looking for their first win on the New Zealand tour, which they were denied. The Kiwis beat the visitors by 7 wickets in Christchurch and went 4-0 up in the 5-match series.
Put into bat, Pakistan was restricted to 158/5 in 20 overs. The only saving grace for them was Mohammad Rizwan who scored a gritty 90 not out.
It seemed that the visitors might defend that total when Shaheen Afridi reduced the hosts to 20/3 by picking up all 3 wickets.
However, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips dropped anchor and took New Zealand over the finish line with 11 balls to spare. While Mitchell scored 72 not out, Phillips remained unbeaten on 70 in their 139-run 4th-wicket partnership.
With that, Pakistan has now lost 8 consecutive matches in international cricket, with 7 of those losses coming ever since Babar Azam was removed as captain.
