Ex-India coach Ravi Shastri has slammed cricket pundits and fans who are questioning the selection of Ajinkya Rahane in the Test squad for the World Test Championship final, which is scheduled to take place in June.
In conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Shastri jeered, 'People think he has just played 3 IPL games and that's why he is in the side, they must have been on holiday for 6-months when he was playing first-class cricket. They must have been in the jungle somewhere where others have no contact with anyone in the world, when you go 6 months into a holiday, you miss those 600 runs'
Backing Rahane's comeback into the Test side, Shastri went on to praise his experience and lauded how he led India to a memorable win against Australia in 2021. Shahstri, who has coached India for 6 years also added that the moment Shreyas Iyer was injured, 'you had to look in that direction'.
