Australia's women's cricket team secured a six-wicket win over India in the opening match of their Women's One-day International series, thanks to a significant 148-run stand between Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry. The duo's batting prowess was on full display during the match on Thursday.
Chasing a formidable target of 283 runs, Litchfield notched up an impressive 78 off 89 balls, while Perry contributed a robust 75 off 72 balls. Their efforts laid a solid foundation for the chase. Following their departure, the experienced Beth Mooney added 42 runs, and Tahlia McGrath's unbeaten 68 further eased Australia's path to victory.
The Indian team, batting first, witnessed strong performances from their middle-order batters. Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar both hit quick half-centuries and forged a crucial 68-run partnership, propelling India to a competitive total of 282/8 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rodrigues was particularly effective, scoring a swift 82 from 77 balls. Vastrakar also made a significant impact, remaining not out with a quickfire 62 from just 46 deliveries. Another notable contribution for India came from opener Yastika Bhatia, who narrowly missed her half-century, scoring 49 runs.
